Elizabeth Gertrude Knight Britton (1857-1934) was a bryologist, educator and one of the founders of the New York Botanical Garden. She served as Honorary Curator of Mosses from 1912-1929. she was born Elizabeth Gertrude Knight in New York City on January 9, 1857. After graduating from Normal School (Hunter College) in 1875, she taught Natural Science there until her marriage to Nathaniel Lord Britton in 1885.
